Matteo’s recommendations for wining, dining and adventure on the island

Before reaching New Zealand, the wild waters of the Pacific Ocean enter the Hauraki Gulf to surround Waiheke—a serene island that is home to some of the country’s finest beaches, vineyards and restaurants.

With an abundance of options for dining and adventure, the only issue when planning your visit is deciding where to go.

Who better to ask for advice than a local? Today’s recommendations are from Matteo, Waiheke resident and our restaurant manager at The Oyster Inn.

Walk the scenic Forest Path from Matiatia to Oneroa (with wine-tasting interludes at Mudbrick and Cable Bay Vineyards)

It’s well known that Mudbrick has some of the best views on the island, but have you ever taken the Forest Path from Matiatia It takes approximately 40 minutes and is 2.8km long. Tastings at Mudbrick happen every day of the week in their tasting room and from their cellar door. There are also daily tastings at Cable Bay that can be booked in advance.
